Archdiocese of Philadelphia Catholic Cemeteries – Various Cemeteries

Section Development for Burials – CF Gorski has designed, surveyed and/or marked-out numerous cemetery section plans for in-ground traditional burial lots, mausoleum lots, cremation lots on tenth acre to over ten acre parcels at the following cemeteries: Ss. Peter and Paul, Marple, PA; Holy Sepulchure, Cheltenham, PA; Calvary, West Conshohocken, PA; Holy Cross, Yeadon, PA; John Neumann, Warrington, PA.

Design work included survey/mapping, client interaction to include local grave type trends in the design and stake-out of all graves with rebar pins. Additionally, other services included the removal of existing rebar marker pins in one 2-acre cemetery section of Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery and then installation new pins for a revised section layout that reduce the wide of footpaths from 4-foot to 3-foot wide, while still being able to accommodate the existing mature trees into the layout of the ranges. CF Gorski designed, constructed a pin-puller device specifically for this project.

Roadway Resurfacing, Drainage Improvements/Repairs – CF Gorski has completed projects in Ss. Peter and Paul, Holy Cross, Holy Sepulchure, and Calvary Cemeteries that consisted of the following:

  • Pavement evaluation and design of repairs/replacement/overlays for roadways of varying sizes. Included regrading of pavement to correct inlet boxes that were placed above pavement grade and were being bypassed by runoff flows.
  • Drainage studies of wet burial sections clogged drainage pipes/inlets; mitigation and design and repairs of drainage infrastructure.
  • Prepared bid documents and managed contractors for resurfacing and repair projects.
  • Managed in-house forces as well as CF work crews for various repair and replacement of drainage infrastructure in various cemeteries.
Some innovated mitigation methods included abandonment of badly deteriorated drainage systems (along roadways that have been compromised by tree roots, substandard and collapsed 100+ year old systems) with alternative drainage systems, that even included the installation of grade changes to the profile of the roadway to incorporate center swales, to eliminate costly traditional pipe and inlet systems.

Building & Plan Review Services for Family Mausoleums and Other Cemetery Structures - Integrating C.F Gorski's collective Structural, Civil and Facilities Engineering experience, we have provided the Catholic Cemeteries with review services of buildings, bridges and for multiple family mausoleums in most of their cemeteries. Building and bridge reviews were conducted to assess structural issues and to provide mitigation measures where needed. Reviews for new family mausoleums were conducted to be sure that private mausoleum owners’ vendors and contractors abide by the Regulations of the cemeteries or local building regulations. The minimum design criteria is checked to be sure foundations and the structure itself are correctly designed, based on soil and site conditions.
